Course “Technology and Innovation Management” at the bbw University of Applied Science, Berlin
PA Stefan Marschall teaches „Technology and Innovation Management” as a lecturer at the bbw University of Applied Science, Berlin.
The course is divided into three sections:
1) Generating Innovations
2) Protection and Utilization of Innovations
3) Standardization
The first sector “Generating Innovations” comprises a conceptual and historical introduction to the subject matter. Actual examples are used to illustrate why innovations are important, in particular from an entrepreneurial point of view, and how an innovation-friendly environment can be created.
The second section “Protection and Utilization of Innovations” includes measures to prevent unauthorized third parties from utilizing said innovations or from using the invention – key concept: licensing. There will be an introduction into industrial property rights, in particularly with reference to patent laws, plus an explanation of the differentiation from other protective measures, such as confidentiality, agreements and additional performance protection relating to competition law.
The third section “Standardization” encompasses measures to establish an innovation as the preferred solution in the market. The creation of norms and standards is illustrated with reference to actual examples and their national and international potentials are highlighted, in particular for start-up companies. Norms, de-jure- and de-facto-standards are weighed up against one another, and those patents and licences which are essential for upholding standards will be discussed – key concept FRAND.
